A demo is recording everything that goes on, on your computer screen, while you are playing a game.  If you play in a match, you can record a demo to demonstrate how well or lousy that you played.  :)  Some leagues require you to send in demo's of your matches to prove that things happened the way you claim they did.

You might also want to make a practice of taking screen shots of all your matches.

To record a demo:

In your console type:  record filename
To stop your demo type: stop

Your demo will be recorded as filename.dem and will be placed in your cstrike directory.

To play your demo:

In your console type: playdemo filename.dem 1

The 1 is the speed that you would like to play it at.  If you would like to play the demo in double speed, then you would type: playdemo filename.dem 2
