Well guess what happened? They went and screwed up another Star Wars game. This week Gamespy is releasing its first reviews of Star Wars Galaxies, and from what I've read (which would be the entire review), the reviews are written by a Star Wars fan trying very hard to glorify a crappy game based on an infallible franchise, and personally, I'm not incredibly surprised by the review at all, not in the slightest bit.
If you judged this game based on its lack of content, buggy setup, and poor service, you would not only have an A+ class failure, you would have a black hole that money was pulled into and never seen again. However, since this game has the Star Wars license stuck on it, there's no possible way it could NOT make millions. Granted the review had a good amount of depth to it, but it's pretty clear that whomever wrote it loved Star Wars too much to admit that the game is (at launch anyway) atrocious.
To be honest however, I really wanted Galaxies to be a winner, and over the few months before release, I seriously considered signing up for it *note to self: thank wife for making me broke*, and apparently I made the right decision. You can read Gamespy's full review and get make your own opinion's from what you read, but based on the consumer's reactions, and the following quote, you may not want to even bother.
In addition to the cost of the box, Sony and LucasArts are charging gamers a $ 14.99 per month subscription fee. That's a wee bit beyond "premium" pricing. If Star Wars Galaxies had been everything promised right out of the gate - everything it eventually promises to be, I'd say pay the fee and have fun. As it stands now, with a bug-infested title, poor customer service, no vehicles and busted quests, there's just no justification for charging gamers for beta testing that should have been done before the title was released.
